Scott Dixon won the Indy Car Series race at Montegi Japan on Saturday night and reclaimed the points lead with only one race to go at Homestead. Dixon beat
Chip Ganassi teammate
Dario Franchitti to take the victory as
Safety-Kleen supported Penske driver
Ryan Briscoe finished in 18th. Now three will compete for the championship the second week in October. The Ganassi cars dominated from the drop of the green flag but Briscoe looked to take the lead on a pit stop but his chances evaporated as he crashed on pit road. With the Penske car out of contention the Ganassi boys pulled away as the field spread out and held the top spot until the checkered flag. The Newman/Haas/Lanigan entry driven by
Graham Rahal secured third by beating his teammate
Oriol Servia and
Mario Moraes at the final restart. Last year's winner
Danica Patrick, a
Safety-Kleen sponsored driver, was never a factor as she had to hold off her
Andretti Green teammate
Marco Andretti along with
Dan Wheldon and
Raphael Matos for sixth. The Indy Car Series flew back to the US on Sunday and head for Homestead for the final race of the season on Saturday, October 10th.
