Highcroft Racing ended the De Ferran Motorsports streak of American Le Mans Series victories on Sunday at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
Safety-Kleen's Gil de Ferran and teammate
Simon Pagenaud were all set to cut into the point's lead of
David Brabham and Scott Sharp but at the beginning of the race the Highcroft car got ahead when De Ferran decided to make an early pit stop under the first yellow. Later cautions brought both back onto the same lap as they were nose to tail again with Brabham just ahead of de Ferran when the green flag waved for the final time with six minutes to go. De Ferran tried to catch Brabham but couldn't as Brabham went on to win by half a second. It was another Acura one-two-three, with the
Safety-Kleen's Adrian Fernandez winning the LMP2 class again.
Rahal Letterman's Joey Hand and Bill Auberlen gave BMW its first GT2 victory at the tight road course at Road America. Thanks to Scott Nelson for the greater Green Bay branch for servicing the teams this weekend.
