The NHRA traveled to the mountain this past weekend to compete at Brandimere Dragway, just outside of Denver, Colorado. The annual trip to the thin air always offers the crew chiefs a bit of a challenge to make the 8,000 horsepower Top Fuel and Funny Cars stick to the track. On Sunday in the finals it was a true test of wills for all. In Top Fuel it was former Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Antron Brown taking on Safety-Kleen sponsored driver Doug Kalitta. As the two cars left the line Kalitta's car blew up and Antron went on to win and still ran a 3.94 at 295 mph. In Funny Car the Safety-Kleen car driven by Ashley Force Hood got beat by Ron Capps in a very tight race. Capps ran a 4.18 at 297 mph against Force Hood's 4.23 at 296. The win moved Capps into a tie with Force Hood in the points lead. The Pro Stock final also saw a Safety-Kleen sponsored car driven by Jason Line fall to Allen Johnson - in a hole shot win. A.J. got off the starting line first and took the victory, 7.004 at 195.87 mph to Line's quicker-but-losing 7.001 at 195.76 mph. The NHRA continue their west coast swing and head to Seattle next weekend to race - at sea level, hopefully this will help the Safety-Kleen drivers get a win.
